Group of Fine Artists

Association of fine artists, architects, writers and theoreticians of fine arts, active shortly before the First World War, between 1911 and 1914. The group’s activities created conditions for the development of Czech modern art.

Obstinate Ones (Tvrdohlaví)

Artistic group of the late 20th century whose work was based on the tradition of the interwar artistic group Tvrdošíjní (The Stubborn Ones) and became the first Czech group of fines artists outside the official regime organisation after 1968.

Osma

A loose group of artists who tended towards cosmopolitanism, created as a reaction to European modernist art and in spite of its short existence it foreshadowed the radical arrival of a new generation of artists.

Ra group

Art group consisting of fine artists and writers influenced by Surrealism, active in the 1940s.

Stubborn Ones

A group of young Czech painters following the pre-war avant-garde, who combined Czech fine arts with European art in their manifesto exhibitions.

Karel Teige

Theoretician and aesthetician, a leading figure of Czech left Avant-Garde, sociologist of architecture, fine artist, literary critic, publicist and translator. He was a founder of Poetism and pioneered the acceptance of Surrealism.
