Detailed information

ETA (Elektrotechnické aparáty) is a Czech company manufacturing home electronic appliances and machines.

The company’s beginnings date back to 1943, when entrepreneur Jan Prošvic founded in Hlinsko the company ESA (Elektrotechnická společnost akciová). At the beginning, the company employed 40 people and manufactured electric irons. After the war, it kept growing and included in its product range cookers, gas heaters and other products. In 1948, ETA was nationalised and incorporated in the company Elektro-Praga. The company began using the ETA brand selected products as early in the 1960s and in 1996 the brand was unified and started to be used for all the company’s products.

Different research studies claim that every Czech family owns or has owned on average at least one ETA product. The company’s best known vacuum cleaner is ETA x400. Almost 2.5 million ETA x400 vacuum cleaners were produced in 16 years. Irons ETA 219 and 220 set another Czech record: almost 11.5 million were produced. In spite of many changes in its ownership structure, the company is still active with up to 240 products in its portfolio and further expanding production. The company’s current seat is in the Karlín district of Prague.
